Learning the many intricacies of gardening can be intimidating and even discouraging. Like most things worthwhile, devoting a little time and effort can yield promising results. Since you've found this article, you can become more informed about gardening so you may become a better gardener.
In the autumn, planting bigger plants will result in stronger root systems. The ground is somewhat warm when compared to the temperature of the air, and the plants are stripped of their leaves, the root system can get all of the plant's resources and create a strong foundation.
Select plant varieties capable of producing large yields. There are genetically modified plants that resist cold and/or disease. These often give higher yields due to higher survival rates.
A gardening tip you can use is; take rubbing alcohol and vinegar and use it to remove any salt deposits that have formed in clay pots. Salt deposits sometimes develop on clay pots with plants in them. Mix water, white vinegar and rubbing alcohol in equal parts, and spray the combination on the pot. The next step is getting your plastic cleaning brush and scrubbing it while you see the salt deposits disappear. Thoroughly rinse the pot, and allow it to dry prior to planting another item in it.
If you are growing vegetables in your garden, it is important that you have them in a spot where they can get at least six hours of sun a day. Many vegetables need about this much sun to grow quickly. This also rings true for some of the flowers.
Try planting berry-bearing evergreens in your yard. These types of trees can offer your garden a splash of color, especially during the winter when all other plants and trees have lost their hues. Some plants provide color during the winter like the Winterberry, and American Holly, the American Cranberrybush and the Common Snowberry.
Grow some plants that cats like to eat - try catnip or wheat grass. Another option is to place something smelly, like citrus peels or mothballs, on the soil surrounding the plants that have previously been eaten.
Protect your tender deciduous shrubs. Cold weather significantly affects these plants, especially if they are in pots. Connect the tops, and then place a sheet over the top of the wigwam. This will work better than wrapping your plant with plastic, because air can still circulate, which will help to prevent rotting.
You must always take care of your knees when working in the garden. Many people find it difficult to bend over for extended periods of time when standing up. Kneeling is much easier on your body, and helps you tend to your plants without hurting your back. You can kneel on a knee pad so that your knees are more comfortable.
